Nobody is born knowing how to do this. I didn’t grow up on a farm. I’m a regular guy with my family and a mortgage where $500 goes out and about $100 hits the principal. You do the math.

Homesteading is just the decision to make more of your own life yourself: some of your food, some of your energy, some of your independence back. You don’t need 40 acres. You don’t need to quit your job. You need a patch of ground and the willingness to look stupid for a while.

Start with one thing. A garden bed. A few chickens. A rain barrel. Get that working, then add the next thing. Everybody who shows you a finished homestead started with one ugly first project. Mine’s coming, I’ll show you all of it, including the parts that fail.
