You don’t have to quit your job and move to the woods. Most homesteaders I know started exactly where you are: a job, a house, and a Saturday.
The weekend homestead runs on three rules:
- Friday night is planning night. Know exactly what Saturday morning’s job is before Saturday morning.
- One job per weekend. Not three. One. Done beats started.
- Systems over effort. Automatic waterers, mulch instead of weeding, perennials instead of annuals, set it up so the homestead survives your work week.
An hour every evening beats a heroic Saturday once a month. The land rewards consistency, not intensity.
